Resembling the bronze dou-vessel in shape, this lamp has a flat shallow tray with straight walls. In the centre of the tray is a candle spike. The hollow stem takes the form of a slender cylinder that flares into the trumpet-shaped base. The plain and utilitarian design is typical of bronzes from the Western Han and the Eastern Han. The present specimen is particularly endearing for its archaic green patina and perfect condition.
