PROVENANCE
Private collection, AsiaZhou Lianhua started art creation from the beginning of 2000. At that time, she was suffering from her husband’s death and took art as her self-healing method. Gradually, she developed her own unique style. Later, she studied oil painting at the Academy of Arts and Design of the Tsing Hua University. Her exhibitions were held in multiple places including Singapore, Moscow, Suzhou Art Museum, Hong Kong Yan Yu Hall, etc.
In her typical work Blue Sky—China Dream Series, she portrays a city as if it is a mirage in a dark blue tone with some exquisite details which symbolize the night. The white colour in the middle seems like torrents in the river, meaning the circle of life. Take a close look, the small and close fissures and cracks on both sides of the river can be imagined as the interwoven roots and crossed branches of a giant tree. The huge and exuberant trees hold the civilisations, rises and falls of a city. At the bottom of the tree, the tiny spots of lights represent the myriad twinkling lights of a city, bringing traces of human existence. The painter unites the nature with the city culture in a clever way, and proclaims a cruel fact that the city is eroding the nature. The colourful combination of blue sky and white clouds is already overloaded, and is no longer the original appearance. Carrying such a deep implication, the work still has a sense of poetic beauty which naturally points out the infinite theme of human beings.
