The top panel and the two shelves of yellow cedar, supported in a rectangular huanghuali frame with molded square-corner posts, all above a lower shelf with plain apron and spandrels. The current one uses huang-huali as the frame and yellow cedar as the shelf panels, which was quite popular at that time. The plain, undecorated stretches between squared-section legs supply further support for the frame.
Small shelves of this type could be placed on side tables to hold books or small antique objects. During Qing dynasty, small shelves are usually made of wood or lacquered wood.
