Pair of Huanghuali side chairs and a Huanghuali waisted stand(Early/Middle Qing Period)

長方幾:45.5cm×39.8cm×76.5cm (18×15 3/4×30 1/8 in) 靠背椅:51cm×43cm×80cm×2 (20×17×31 1/2 in×2)

Made from huanghuali wood with an appealing grain, this set of side chairs and a stand is rectangular in design to evoke balance and uniformity. The back of each of the undecorated chairs is inset with a frame, leaving an opening in the middle. On three sides underneath the cane webbing seat are undecorated aprons. The angular back legs extend all the way up to join with the top rail. Between the legs are stretchers, the side ones of which are slightly higher than that in front, complete with a footrest, and that at the back.
The waistless stand with hoof feet is decorated with stylized dragons on top and with a crackle-patterned shelf below which doubles as a footrest.
