Huanghuali dressing case(Late Ming/Early Qing Period)

Of rectangular form, the flattened top panel slightly raised above the graceful curvilinear domed cover and embellished with metal mounts on each of the four corners, the hinged cover opening to release a pair of doors in turn opening to reveal four smaller removable drawers above a large drawer, arranged in three tiers, each fitted with brass pulls closed and secured by a circular flush metal plate and cloud-shaped hasp and pierced pulls, the exterior sides applied with a pair of metal loop handles, the corners reinforced with metal mounts and rectangular flush-set hinges, the whole raised on a plain base platform fitted with shaped mounts, the wood of attractive grain and well-figured.
There are two types of Chinese traditional seal chests: ping-ding (flat roof) and lu-ding (a four-sloped roof with a flat central portion). The current lot is of lu-ding style. Lu-ding is one of the styles of Chinese traditional roofing systems.
