This piece was used as a table, a step to a bed, or a decorative stand. The single board top ending in scrolled everted flanges, borne on paired legs slightly recessed from the ends and set on block-form shoe feet, is secured with a shaped apron accented with beading running to the 'cloud-collar' scrolled spandrels.
Interestingly this table shows a distinct frontal orientation since the scrolled ends protrude out from one side but not the other. The flatter back side may have butted flat against the base of a kang or couch as a footstool, but alternatively it may also have been used as a kang table butted flat against the back-board of the couch.
