Each stool has a rectangular floating panel of burl wood set within a zitan frame with its curved edge protruding over the straight apron, and straight squared legs terminating in high hoof feet. Squared hump-backed stretchers secure the construction.
The present pair is an interesting example of the disintegration of style: the high hoof foot that is typical of Kangxi furniture has been slightly cut down, and decorative non-structural ruyi-head struts have been inserted above the humpbacked stretchers.
