The Magical Contemporary Metaphor Full of Beauty
Chang TengYuan's Modern Classic Of Mountains And Seas

Chang TengYuan has been creating his imaginary role of Parrotzilla (parrot man) since 2012. The character that travels through time and space is based on the imagination of “earth exploration activities by alien”. This assumption creates unique angles upon the discussion of current social issues. The artwork this time, Parrotzilla; Team is another masterpiece.

In Parrotzilla; team, the artist breaks away from the traditional canvas and creates a biblical three-dimensional work with wood, showing a contemporary fable full of fantasy, which resembles the classic of mountains and seas. In Parrotzilla, the protagonist in a dinosaur costume is walking alone. The volcano around seems about to erupt, demonstrating the fantasy of “returning to ancient times”. The artist interprets the surrounding volcanoes in blue, purple, indigo and other cool-tone colours while rendering the ground under the feet of parrot man with bright orange. This symbolizes the rising temperature and the impending eruption, tracing back to the mysterious face of the initially chaotic world. Team follows the time of the previous painting. On the earth, the red slurry shows that the volcano has erupted so that even the sky is dyed with red because of the high temperature. Then, the Parrotzilla took off the dinosaur's coat and put on the white research uniform. He is holding a notepad, recording the scene that happened in front of him as a modern people. Dinosaur's coat indicates that the artist integrated a “first-person” perspective to the figure while switching back to modern wear enables the protagonist to record his surroundings from a distance. In the double roles of subjectivity and objectivity, this paper narrates the adventure of “exploring ancient times”.

In the work, the still life not only appears on the front but also extends to the four edges. At the bottom edge, a pair of hands are specially designed to open the horizontal axis. The axis is inscribed with the words “parrotzilla” and “team”, which is unique as a theme of the Oracle.
