Rabbit Nini's Manifesto

Huang Benrei graduated from the Fine Arts Department of Tai Wan Normal University, and received her master's degree from School of Visual Arts, New York in 1992. She created Rabbit Nini as her embodiment since 2008, and has held solo exhibitions in Taipei, Hong Kong and New York. The image presents us the innocence of life and the beauty of curing hearts. The Lightness of Being (Lot 9) and An Alternative Self (Lot 8) we are presenting this time are one of the works in Minority Rules, her solo exhibition presented by Eslite Gallery in 2018. The exhibition had received overwhelmingly positive response. Another piece Giant Pet (Lot 10) is the artist's largest work so far, which demonstrates her energetic creation power.

Created in 2017, the quadruple piece The Lightness of Being adopted the four-panel comic special form. It demonstrates how Rabbit Nini, the character in the work, explores a multi-dimensional life by narrative art language. The work builds four super realistic scenes with multiple colors while the rabbit in the scenes is experiencing a real life, which are reflections of the different phases in life. Sometimes she meditates, sometimes she is alone, and sometimes she is a little lost in the pursuit of the ideal. When she finally finds the treasure, she gets to roam free, and the bright orange reflects the joy from her heart. The audience follows Nini's steps and completes a spiritual journey in this vivid painting. Moreover, they see the power of self-realization through Nini's image, and understand that life is light, but can also be heavier than Mount Tai!
