Enchanting Spring Arrives Everywhere, Poetic Art Speaks its Fame
Neo-Freehand, the Integrated Aesthetic Spirit of Pang Jiun

Pang Jiun was born in a famous art family. His father, Pang Xunqin, was the founder of the Jue Lan Society and belonged to the first generation of oil painting masters in China. His mother Qiu Di was a well-known talented woman in the time of the Republic of China. The family culture had made him interested in painting and music since his childhood. He entered the Hangzhou Academy of Art in 1949, and then entered the Central Academy of Fine Arts in 1952, becoming a close disciple of Xu Beihong. Pang lives in the soil of freehand brushwork China. Strongly guided by the thought of the times, he chose to combine classical sentiment with modern beauty. He found a balance between the thick texture of oil paint and the freehand brushwork of ink using a compatible method to join the characters of the ancient, contemporary, oriental, and west. Most importantly, he creates a very personal style.

In recent years, Pang's artistic achievements have received high repercussions. Successively, he held large-scale solo exhibitions in the National Art Museum of China in Beijing, the National Museum of History in Taipei, the Ueno Museum of Art in Tokyo, Hong Kong Exchange Square, and many other places. The works have been favored by people from all art circles. At this auction, China Guardian Hong Kong is honored to present Pang's four extraordinary creations on the theme of Spring. Spring Comes to My Home (Lot 123) is on the theme of flowers, and the other three are landscape paintings, including the two-meter-long macro chapter Spring Arrived in Guilin (Lot 124), Spring Still in Jiangnan (Lot 121), and his rare early work Snow on Ancient Pagoda (Lot 122), which each present the beautiful sceneries in Guilin, Jiangnan, and Beihai.

Experience the South Spring, Appreciate the Poetic Painting

Pang often paints the spring of Jiangnan. He was originally from Jiangsu. In his paintings of Jiangnan, he reflects the thoughts of returning home. Completed in 2016, Spring Still in Jiangnan is a work summarizing all his achievements of sketching. He uses super color rhythm to show Jiangnan's living style, a little bridge across the gentle river, and the comfortable houses alongside the bridge.

The beautiful scenery of Jiangnan is blessed with a unique and timeless charm, which is also the basis of Pang's creation. Whenever he traces back to the memories of Jiangnan, he would find some new inspiration. Spring Still in Jiangnan has the artist's reconstruction of the landscape. Two arch bridges, rowboats, and white walls with black tiles in the painting are connected by the flowing water. Through a coherent visual rhythm, Pang creates a long-lasting charm. Pang was inspired by the essential technique of impressionism, which is the fusion of the block-shape color. This composition creates the rippling water effect. However, he does not rely on the superimposition of oil paint to shape the scene. Pang uses his skills of ink painting, makes quick strokes in one go, bringing out the visual effect of gurgling water. The rich oil texture creates connection points with sharp brushstrokes. He uniquely infiltrates the classic gray tones with light pink, beige, turquoise, blue, gray, and other multi-dimensional and harmonious colors, floating in the water town. The artist observes the life scenes, and paints his understanding of the scenes on the painting. Through the bright color and tension, Pang portrays his admiration of spring.
