The Rhythm of Color, the Stage of Dream
Williams' Fantastic Space

Ian Williams was born in the United Kingdom in 1976. He loved art since he was a child. In 2018, he obtained a first-class fine arts bachelor's degree from Curtin University, Perth, Australia. His work are widely collected by art institutions, including the Australian Art Bank, University of Western Australia, Central Institute of Technology, etc., and was shortlisted for the Royal Perth Art Award in 2018. Williams is particularly interested in the metaphysics of virtual space. He attempts to express the experience and unique perspective of Gen Z on the game world under the development of technology. His art is composed of rich colors and blocks, constructing a parallel time and space that transcends the real world and resonating among people. This time, we present his oil painting Original Things, which brings the viewers into an extraordinary stage of imagination fused by color and light.

In Original Things, the geometric shapes in orange, purple, yellow, pink on an overlapping blue background together create a colorful world. The bright white area in the center looks like a light source, illuminating the surroundings, and making the color blocks shine with a dynamic luster and sparkle. The dancing rose pink sprays out like a liquid, forming a flowing state, dancing in front of the solidified color block, and forming a contrast and echo between the tangible and the intangible. From blue to purple, pink, orange, and light yellow, the work completes the gradation and transition from deep to light, and from cold to warm, finding a delicate balance between calmness and enthusiasm. It uses the light in central, showing the thirst for freedom and enthusiasm in the heart. The outlines of the painted blocks show signs of deformation in the strong posture, which echoes contemporary society's seemingly indifferent interpersonal relationship, while people, instead, closely communicate with each other through the internet in the virtual world. The bottom half of the painting is as smooth as the ice-like horizontal surface, reflecting the colorful melody from the top half. It seems that it is silently watching the development of an emerging generation, showing a crazy world where passion and reason coexist.
