42×24×13.5 cm (16 1/2×9 1/2×5 3/8 in)
The rectangular box mounted with a large squared lock-plate with it clasp finely cast as a broad cloud-collar panel and squared bail handles issuing from quatrefoil florets to either side. The panels have been joined with hidden tenons so that the rich grain of the huanghuali could be fully displayed. The hinged cover is set with loops for a chain to prevent it from falling too far back, thereby over-straining the wood around the hinges.
