This handy short weapon is cast as one, complete with both blade and handle. The cutting edge is crescent and the spine is thick. Between the blade and the handle is a protruding finger guard. The openwork handle is oblong in shape and covered with toothed designs. The butt is in the form of a ram’s head with a gaping mouth, turquoise inlaid eyes and eye-catching spiraled horns. Its neck is cast with a ring for stringing.
Designed with a ram’s, horse’s or deer’s head, this type of knives was commonly used by nomads of the northern plains during Western Zhou and hence has a strong ethnic flavour.
