Spring Begins in April, Art Lasts for Generations
The Appearance of Pang Jiun's Monumental Still Life

Pang once said, “When I paint flowers, I would be more free and brilliant. Painting flowers is not only about flowers. The use of color, stroke, brush, personality, and emotion are all integrated, presenting a spiritual visual language, both Western and Eastern.” Besides the theme of landscape, still life flower is another category of Pang's creation. The works are outstanding and full of spiritual meaning. This category clearly shows the integrated style from expressiveness to spirituality. As a monumental work on this subject, Spring Comes to My Home demonstrates the artist's painting achievements.

Expressing Aspirations with Flowers: Eastern Spirit on Western Theme

The theme of flowers has a history of over 500 years in Western art. At the golden age of the Netherlands, people pursue exquisite realism. When it came to the end of the 19th century, Van Gogh began to paint flowers in subjective understanding. The creation of vase flowers was given a new spiritual symbolization. This also appears in the creations of oriental art masters such as Lin Fengmian, Sanyu, and others. For Pang, in addition to the influence of post-impressionism and the pioneering vision of the ancestors, he also learned from the traditional literati's expression style. In his time, he used new freehand aesthetics to present the colors and symbolic meaning of flowers, combining the tradition and contemporary, and touching the spirit.

Shinning Colors and Vibrating Rhythm: Embrace the Spring

In the paintings, the spring flowers bloom like stars, bright and dense. The overlapping and colorful brushstrokes show the vitality. With the careful composition, the flowers open from the center to the surroundings, forming a rhythmic change from dense to sparse. From a distance, it looks like a blooming flower crown, suggesting the dynamic life. In the background, the artist applies the soft and luxurious pastels to convey the feeling of spring, reminding people of Van Gogh's beautiful and dynamic Poppy Flowers, which perpetuates the beautiful moments of blooming in painting. But the winter jasmine has experienced the cold winter, blossoming on the branches. It tells people that the winter is gone and spring is coming, wishing all the best to all the people.

To enhance this spectacular scene, the artist used a wavy-decorated brown rustic vase to show the elegance of the Eastern scholars. The tablecloth dyed in blue and white is painted with patterns of celebration figures and stars; fruits are placed on the table, bright and fresh. These summon beautiful autumn, indicating the harvest of the work of spring. The work perfectly combines the transcendent Western colors with the rich oriental poetic sentiment. Between the real object and the virtual ambition, Pang looks forward to the years to come and blooms the spiritual brilliance of art.
